Applying for rooms and apartments There are 3 ways of getting a room at Helsingkrona: through novischuthyrningen (letting to new students), by signing up on the waiting list, or by subletting someone else´s room. Novischuthyrningen (Letting to the new students) Novischuthyrningen is for students who have not studied in Lund before. About a quarter of the rooms that are available for letting from February 1st and September 1st are offered to some of those who have written to the bostadsförman("housing foreman") prior to these dates. In this letter one should include name, address, date of birth, and other things for example what one is planning to study in Lund, what one has studied or worked with before, interests and hobbies and references at the nation. Those who wish to apply must send their letter to the bostadsförman before the 1st of August and the 1st of January respectively. Please enclose application forms. Applicants who are offered a room must be members of the nation prior to signing their contracts. The waiting list Those who are not fortunate enough to get a room during novischuthyrningen can always sign up for the waiting list. Depending on if one applies for a corridor room, a kitchenette or an apartment, the rules for the waiting list are a little different. Corridor rooms: The rooms are first offered to foremen and workers at the nation, then to other active members of the nation, and after that to non-active members. In other words, in order to advance on the waiting list, one needs to become involved in the nation. It´s not a bad idea to show interest by coming over to talk to our friendly bostadsförman now and then, as well as getting some good references at the nation. Usually we try to house as many men as women in the corridors, which often has as a result that the women don´t wait in line for as long a time as the men, since there are normally more men on the waiting list. Applications are to be renewed every six months. Apartments and kitchenettes: For the apartments and kitchenettes there is a points system: Foreman 1 point / semester Member of the nation 1 point / semester Resident at Helsingkronagarden 1 point / semester Member of the kuratel or husförman/bostadsförman 2 points / semester Applications are to be renewed each year. The apartments are first offered to couples, then to applicants who intend to have a room-mate. If there are no such applicants, applicants who intend to live alone are accepted. Subletting someone else's room If you know someone who is going to study outside of Lund or is going to do their military service, he or she can sublet the room to you. In order to sublet a room the bostadsförman requires a certificate from the tenant. The person who is to rent the room also must be/become a member of the nation. The subletting must be approved by the bostadsförman and can last no longer than a year. Subletting a room does not automatically guarantee that one later obtains a first-hand contract. |
